Preface and Acknowledgement
The reason for starting The Byte Highlight channel and giving credit where it's due.
Dear Reader,
It is my pleasure to announce the launch of this newsletter “The Byte Highlight”. It has been 14 years since I was first introduced to the world of Engineering and Technology. The journey that began from my first engineering lecture has been a whirlwind. The knowledge gained while studying Electronics and Communication Engineering led me towards my passion for computers. And so, I went on an expedition halfway across the globe into the world of technological prominence that is USA and achieved Master of Science in Computer Science. Thereafter, I gained the most invaluable experience working as a Software Engineer working with some of the best professionals in the world. The insights and wisdom gained at those world class organizations led me to my decision of starting my own company to contribute towards the betterment of society with the help of technology.
I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to my role models. Firstly, I would like to thank my mother Asha Gor, who is also the cofounder of my startup, for her unwavering support in my personal and professional life. Her brilliant ideas and hard work are just one of the many virtues I hope to inherit. I would like to thank my mentor late Mr. Jonathan Elliott Sr. for inspiring me with his zest for work, even in the most challenging work environments. I have never met someone that could match his level of work ethics and technical prowess. May his soul rest in peace. My special thanks to Mr. Shannon Hall, Mr. Krishna Dubagunta and Mr. Risheng Xia, for always having my back and teaching me invaluable lessons of perseverance, hard work and attention to detail. I would also like to thank the professors of my alma-maters SCET and NJIT, especially Prof. Niteen Patel, Prof. Pritesh Saxena, Prof. George Blank, Prof. Morty Kwestel, and Prof. Alexandros Gerbessiotis for their penchant for provide quality education.
The primary reason for starting this newsletter is the stark difference between the skillset that academia provides and what industry expects. It is something that I faced during my initial years in the industry. With this newsletter, I intend to bridge the gap between these crucial aspects of knowledge. The goal for this newsletter is to aid the future engineers as a navigational tool. A compass that provides a direction between theory and industry practice.
Another realization that I had while working in the industry is how important and difficult it is for engineers to stay relevant and up to date with the current developments and trends in the industry. It doesn’t take long for working professionals to lag from the trends and lose market readiness due to the immense workloads of the modern day.
With so much content available all over the internet, it is hard to decipher what’s relevant. In this age of information, the biggest problem is information overload. There are numerous tech newsletters out there, some of them sending daily updates, often with irrelevant information and links, just for the sake of it. The important difference that I would like to highlight between this newsletter and the others is quality over quantity. I do not intend to roll out daily newsletters. Not everything that happens in the tech world is relevant to rest of the world. And with new silicon valleys and tech hotspots being setup in India and many other countries, the need for geographical awareness and relevance is higher than ever. Therefore, I felt the need for a channel through which new and existing professionals can sharpen their skillset and stay up to date on cutting edge technology without feeling overwhelmed.
Sincerely,
Nisarg Gor
